Baroque Masters
Horsham Chamber Orchestra
Venue: St Mary’s Church, Horsham

Two very well-known composers, Bach and Handel, have written the majority of the music in this programme. However, their works which we are performing are not so well-known. The substantial anthem The ways of Zion do mourn, which Handel composed for the funeral of Queen Caroline, is the main work. Written four years before Messiah, there are plenty of phrases which will sound reassuringly familiar. Bach’s contribution consists of cantata 150 Nach dir, Herr, verlanget mich and the motet O Jesu Christ, and the programme also features a joyful motet by Telemann, a north German contemporary of Bach and Handel who in his day was the most highly regarded of the three composers. Horsham Chamber Orchestra provides the accompaniment of strings, oboes and bassoon.

Two Elizabethan Ages
Venue: St John’s Church, Broadbridge Heath

A celebration in music for the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee with an exciting new venture: a Supper Concert. Enjoy a buffet meal, then sit back and listen to music from two Elizabethan ages featuring settings of Shakespeare by the famous jazz musician George Shearing, Choral Dances from Gloriana by Britten and, of course, madrigals. Pudding and music in a lighter vein will round off the evening.
